Miamisburg rode a 31-point third quarter performance to defeat the Pirates in West Carrollton on Friday to retain the Partlow-Kinderdine Trophy, 44-27.
The Vikings scored on their opening drive after forcing a West Carrollton punt. Justin Barry hit Drew Copsey on a pass from 14-yards out. The extra point attempt was missed for a 6-0 lead. The Pirates answered with an 18-yard pass from Kamaury Cleveland to Dujuan Howard. The extra point snap was errant, and the game was tied at 6.
The Viking were able to mount a drive at the end of the first half. Barry hit Conner Smith in the back of the end zone on a 19-yard pass with :13 reamining in the half. Thomas Monnig added the extrat point, and the Vikings held a 13-6 lead at the break.
The Vikings opened the third quarter with another drive into Pirate territory. Thomas Monnig kicked a 22-yard field goal to begin the third quarter onslaught.
On the ensuing drive, Jon Jon Smith forced a fumble, and Baylor Stickel returned it 72 yards for another Viking touchdown. Monnig’s extra point gave the Vikings a 23-6 lead with 7:28 remaining in the quarter. The Pirates were able to respond quickly, hitting two deep passes, the second a 39-yard string from Cleveland to Jorden Berry. With the extra point, WC was able to cut the lead to 23-13.
The Vikings culminated their next possession with 1-yard run by Christian Davis. After Justin Davis intercepted Cleveland on the first play of the next possession, Conner Smith caught his second touchdown pass of the evening from 12 yards. The next possession ended with Taiwan Howard taking a short pass from Barry 64 yards for a 44-13 lead at the end of three quarters.
The Pirates were able to add two touchdowns in the fourth quarter for the final tally.
